Let’s talk about Utah… have you been? It’s the definition of spectacular. We have called this epic land home for almost 3 years now and we still feel like we’ve just barely scratched the surface of the adventures. Here are some highlights from just the last few weeks in beautiful Utah as we continue to explore more of our home state. Isn’t it stunning?!?

New decade, New Look! It’s been a really exciting two months home (well sort of home!) Matthew and I spent time in Puerto Rico as well as a few short RV trips in Utah and I got to go spend time with my parents for a few weeks in Atlanta. Needless to stay we aren’t slowing down! New adventure incoming!!! This one’s going to be red hot!!

Continuing on around Australia, we explored its vast landscapes before diving into New Zealand’s stunning fjords and fantastic time with friends, where we lingered for a while. The journey continued to the Middle East, marveling at ancient wonders, modern skyscrapers and sweeping sand dunes. Then, we embarked on a 47-day cruise around Africa, captivated by its diverse coastlines, wildlife, and vibrant, busy markets. We wrapped up in Europe, spending a delightful week in Portugal, enchanted by its historic charm, even after a crazy storm, especially in Sintra. Finally, we returned to the United States of America, hearts full and thrilled to be back in our favorite county on earth = America! We are so grateful for the memories that will last a lifetime. Wow what a trip!

After an unforgettable five-month journey spanning 25 countries around the globe, I’m thrilled to share highlights of my favorite spots. Friends have asked for our top recommendations, so here are some must-add destinations for anyone’s bucket list.

A major highlight was celebrating Atalaya’s high school graduation (at just 14!) in Hawaii. Having now explored other South Pacific islands, I realize we often take Hawaii for granted. Its convenience and abundance of fun activities make it a gem. The South Pacific’s underwater world was another standout—snorkeling in those pristine waters was magical, and I could share endless recommendations for the best spots. In New Zealand, the serene lakes and charming Hobbiton were breathtaking, while an afternoon at Gibbs Farm was a personal favorite. Australia’s Adelaide Botanic Garden was a delight, showcasing nature’s beauty. In Abu Dhabi, the Presidential Palace was mind-blowing, a testament to stunning modern architecture. Our hotel in Doha was exceptional, and the sand dunes offered an exhilarating adventure. Africa was wild, though my recommendation list there is shorter. Sintra, Portugal, felt like stepping into a fairytale—a must-visit for its enchanting charm.

Finally, returning to Utah was awe-inspiring. To travel the world and come home to such breathtaking beauty reminds us how extraordinary our own backyard is.

The Westernmost point of continental Europe is in Portugal at a place called Cabo da Roca. You would not believe how beautiful the coastline is! Despite it being in the 50s, Atalaya was determined to go swim in the Atlantic ocean… Even though she did not bring the best hiking shoes (🤣) she was so thrilled to reach the beach and go for a swim in the wild waves. She also knew she could go home to the villa and warm up with a nice cup of tea. Anyone wanna come for a dip??

Lisbon Portugal! Today we disembark our ship after 47 days. We could not be more thrilled to be back in one of our favorite cities. Thankfully Matthew rented the larger size car and managed to get all of our luggage to fit! And our next stop was one of our favorite places in Lisbon. Time Out Market! This should be on your bucket list. Swipe to the end to see the kids and how small they were the last time we ate at Time Out Market. Ah Europe, we love you.

Las Palmas, Grand Canary Highlights. This is officially our last port of call before we disembark in Europe and wow what a trip it has been! We spent a few weeks in Hawaii before boarding a ship for a 45 day cruise through the South Pacific around Australia and New Zealand. We spent about six weeks in New Zealand and then flew to the Middle East on the longest flight of our life. Next we spent a week in Doha and then boarded another ship for 47 days and we have circumnavigated the entire continent of Africa. What an amazing adventure! I’m living my best life 🥰

Traveling with 4 kids is endless laughter, so much food, more luggage than we should have, 4 unique opinions about every place we’ve been plus we get to visit all the bathrooms, and memories that will stay with us forever. As this ‘World Trip’ draws to a close after 5 months, I’m eternally grateful to have gotten to experience the world with them.

They have great museums, gorgeous beaches and fantastic scenery. Although as you can tell by the picture, Valiant wasn’t quite sure what he thought of the mummies in the museum.

São Tomé & Principe Highlights! What a fun island! We arrived and got a local guide to give us a tour for the day. We drove down to see the famous Pico Cao Grande which is a giant pillar sticking up into the sky and reminded me of Utah. Next we headed to a beautiful beach where I found the most fascinating and rare type of sand dollar. Coolest sand dollar ever! This island has a lot to explore. Swipe through the pictures to see how they do their laundry. Amazing!!

Namibia Highlights! What a fun time we had exploring this fascinating country. Flamingos, salt farms, pink sand beaches, cute babies, and seemingly endless sand dunes made our time in Namibia so memorable but the absolute highlight was Mango, our sweet tour guides pet bird which spent the whole time with us. Now in our minds Namibia = Mango 🦜 Funny side note, our tour guide could not believe we were from Utah. Southern Utah is her number one spot on her bucket list and she and her husband watch YouTube videos over four times a week of people who live here in Southern Utah. Great reminder that we really do live in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Chameleon on your head anyone?!? This girl was ready to smuggle a new pet home! We went to explore Amber Mountain National Park in northern Madagascar for the day. Home to the world smallest species of chameleon and also home to lots of big ones as well. It was so cool to see lemurs in the wild and yes Atalaya survived the bathroom!

Mauritius!!! Not suspicious, but has lots of things delicious. We spent two days exploring this island. A few epic parts were the beautiful beach on the south and the chameleons!! Ah so amazing! Kenya Highlights! It was such a pleasure to be greeted by the President of Kenya as we arrived in Mombasa. We spent our day on a tour of the city and visited Fort Jesus, then on to see the animals in Haller Park. Isn’t the hippo enormous?!? And the monkeys particularly enjoyed Atalaya’s food. Everyone loved the jumping crew who came to perform for the passengers as we got back on our ship. Kenya is a wild place.

Dubai!! Highlights of our time in Dubai were definitely getting to spend time with some of our good friends. The pool at Cloud 22, on top of their hotel had some amazing views. The boys went to the waterpark and the girls went to the Burj Khalifa. Dubai is such a fascinating city to explore and there’s so much more than you can do in one day.

Abu Dhabi. Wow. I have never seen a palace like this. It was like the real life Aladdin! Just Mind Blowing!! Where is my magic carpet?!? If you visit you must go experience the Presidential Palace. We also visited the Grand Mosque and the girls wrists were showing so we got to buy colorful long dresses to wear as we explored. It was a beautiful and warm adventure.

Camels, Falcons and giant sand dunes! Qatar is everything you expect but it has a lot of surprises! We enjoyed our week exploring Doha and relaxing at our beautiful hotel. The people were kind, the air was dry and the sand was everywhere. I doubt anyone will be convincing Savella to take a camel ride for quite some time but when you’re in Qatar, it is a must!

Matthews happy place. Wow check this out! We had the honor of getting to spend the afternoon exploring Gibbs Farm about an hour north of Auckland. This private residence is home to a collection of the most fascinating large scale sculptures placed across their 1500 acre farm, along with lots of beautiful animals, my favorite of which was their giraffes! We wandered around the farm and ogled at the artwork, the views and the furry friends. Even a flat tire on the RV couldn’t take away from the magic of this farm. What an amazing place in the world. Stunning in every way. #gibbsfarm

Last year we were lucky enough to meet the most wonderful family from New Zealand. Ben and Jenna and their two adorable boys! We had tons of fun together in Asia and we told them we are going to come visit you in NZ. You know when you find “your people” you just know. Perhaps much to their surprise our main goal in New Zealand was to hang out as much as possible with Bear and Bo. (and their awesome parents!) And that we did! It was such a fun 9 days together at their insanely beautiful new lake house and also in their hometown of Christchurch. Our kids had simply the most amazing time getting to hike, tube, wake surf, biscuit (kiwi for tubing behind a boat), cook, eat, eat, eat and play. Fantastic BBQ, great music, lots of kiwi lessons, tons of adventures wow what a visit! And we loved getting to know their family and extended family during our stay. Fantastic people thru and thru. Ben and Jenna, thank you for being not only wonderful hosts and tour guides but for your friendship. We can’t wait to see you all again soon somewhere in the world.

Tauranga Highlights! What a great town!! The ship pulled right in to town and at the end of the road is Mount Maunganui. We climbed the mountain and enjoyed the sweeping views of the Bay of Plenty. It was finally warm!! Maybe it is summer after all! We explored the beach and the main road in town before heading back to the ship to finish packing. Weird to be disembarking after living on the ship for a month and a half!

Happy Birthday to Atalaya! And Happy 2025! Picton Highlights! This is a small town on the north side of New Zealands southern Island, which mainly serves the ferry that takes people back and forth from the north to the south islands. It’s also a base to go out and explore the Marlborough Sound. Our morning itinerary was a boat trip out on the sound to experience the scenery. We saw penguins and dolphins playing in the water. Fascinating thing out here is the hike that people do called the Queen Charlotte track, the boat staff moves everyone’s luggage to the different campsites along the hike so the kids had fun helping out with all the bags and gear. Happy Birthday to Atalaya! And Happy 2025! Picton Highlights! This is a small town on the north side of New Zealands southern Island, which mainly serves the ferry that takes people back and forth from the north to the south islands. It’s also a base to go out and explore the Marlborough Sound. Our morning itinerary was a boat trip out on the sound to experience the scenery. We saw penguins and dolphins playing in the water. Fascinating thing out here is the hike that people do called the Queen Charlotte track, the boat staff moves everyone’s luggage to the different campsites along the hike so the kids had fun helping out with all the bags and gear. Wellington NZ Highlights! It was a rainy day as we pulled into the capital of New Zealand. First things first we took the cable car up to the top of the hill and wandered around the gardens, enjoying the views of the city. The rest of the afternoon we spent getting boba and doing a little shopping. As it was New Year’s Eve, we went back to the ship to get ready for the evening festivities. We ate dinner together and reflected back on 2024. This has been the best year yet! Can’t wait to see you what 2025 has to offer us!

Wellington NZ Highlights! It was a rainy day as we pulled into the capital of New Zealand. First things first we took the cable car up to the top of the hill and wandered around the gardens, enjoying the views of the city. The rest of the afternoon we spent getting boba and doing a little shopping. As it was New Year’s Eve, we went back to the ship to get ready for the evening festivities. We ate dinner together and reflected back on 2024. This has been the best year yet! Can’t wait to see you what 2025 has to offer us!

Dunedin Highlights! Our ship pulled into port about 20 minutes outside of the city so we had to take two Ubers into town to the rental car place and then we set out to explore the Otego Peninsula. We visited the Royal Albatross center, and the wind was whipping! Next we zigzaged along the beautiful roads, passed so many sheep, and found some seals right on the side of the road. We went and search of the yellow eyed penguin but it was the wrong time of day for them to be on the beach. Next we toured around the main Octagon of the town and then headed out to Baldwin Street, which is steepest street in the world! After the climb up and down, we headed back to the ship, and the sail out was beautiful past the cliffs where the Royal Albatross nest. First stop on land in New Zealand and we’ve already lost count of how many sheep we’ve seen! 🐑

Fjords of New Zealand Highlights! Today we arrived in New Zealand. First stop Milford Sound! This is such a fantastic place in the world and it’s so great to be back. We got alto cruise through Milford Sound and then down through Doubtful Sound and lastly, the evening was spent cruising through Dusky Sound. We got lucky and it was rainy the day before and the morning of our trip through the Fjords so the waterfalls were showing off!. The pictures don’t do it justice. This is just one of the places you have to go and visit yourself!

Fjords of New Zealand Highlights! Today we arrived in New Zealand. First stop Milford Sound! This is such a fantastic place in the world and it’s so great to be back. Hobart Tasmania Highlights! Boxing Day in Tasmania was an interesting day to tour around because most shops and museums were closed. We made the most of it and toured the grounds of the Botanic Garden and the downtown areas. “Summer” isn’t proving to be very warm so we hit up a few stores to get some jackets for the kiddos and mama. Best part of the day was definitely our time in the gardens. I could just stay there forever. 🌹

Hobart Tasmania Highlights! Boxing Day in Tasmania was an interesting day to tour around because most shops and museums were closed. We made the most of it and toured the grounds of the Botanic Garden and the downtown areas. “Summer” isn’t proving to be very warm so we hit up a few stores to get some jackets for the kiddos and mama. Kangaroo Island Highlights! Our visit to this island fell on Christmas Eve. We got super lucky and we were able to get a rental car and spend the day exploring this fascinating island. There’s over 60,000 kangaroos! We drove down to see the Australian seals and then we went in search of koala bears. There were kangaroos everywhere, just everywhere! We went to a beautiful area that said there would be lots of koalas and decided to go for a walk around the pond. As we were going along three gigantic kangaroos jumped out in front of me from the bushes. I’m not sure who was more frightened! They bounced off and turned back and looked at us as we stood there in shock. Luckily we just watched them as they hopped away and then we continued our search for koala bears. Oh man, we got lucky and found lots of them in the trees. They are so cute! The cove next to the port where we docked was actually called Christmas Cove… of course being Christmas Eve we went over and took some pictures there. Super interesting calm Island, and as the name suggests, there are lots and lots and lots of kangaroos. 🦘🦘🦘

We took the train into town and then as we were walking down the street we came across the South Australian Museum which we thought we would run through really quick, but then proceeded to spend about two hours exploring. Probably one of our favorite museums ever! Next, we headed over to the Botanic Gardens and much to my delight, they were having a Chihuly exhibit happening and anyone who knows us knows we are completely obsessed with him. It was such a fun day, exploring the gardens and the glass and falling in love with this darling city.
Definitely on our list of places to come back to and spend more time!

Living on a cruise ship is wild! Wanna know some of the highlights?!? The 6 of us have spent a month and a half calling this ship home as we’ve sailed from Hawaii through the South Pacific, down the west coast of Australia, and then across to and all around New Zealand. It’s been the trip of a lifetime and each night we’ve gotten to come back to the ship that we have called home during this amazing journey. Along the way we’ve had lots of sea days which we fill with reading, working out, schoolwork, swimming (or cold plunges, depending on the temperature outside) eating, eating, eating, ice cream cone contests, nail appointments, basketball games and going to shows which somehow our kids always seem to end up being a part of. The mornings are filled with coffee and cuddle sessions and then most days we head out to explore new destinations. And we’re so grateful that when we get back to the ship each night there are tons of dinner options waiting on us and a clean room which is a huge bonus! The staff has become like family and we’ve made new lifelong friends along the way with other guests.

Matthew’s favorite part is me but his favorite dessert is the pineapple! My favorite part (aside from my hot husband) is not having to pack an unpack over and over to see so many different destinations. Atalaya has had a blast hanging with the other teens and she loves the basketball court. Camden’s favorite part is being able to see so much of the world plus the crepe station. Savella Loves being able to have fine dining for 3 meals a day! (Nobody is surprised by that!) Valiant’s favorite part, for sure, is carrying around the freestyle daily in his pocket and knowing what’s happening throughout the day, plus going to bingo and the art auctions with all the other older guests onboard.
It’s been a blast and this is a small glimpse. For sure we will post more about the cruise aspect in the future. For now enjoy the sped up wresting match of Atalaya and Valiant 🤪 and imagine what mornings are like in the parents 200 square foot room when the kiddos all came and piled in bed with us. These are the moments we will remember forever.

Portland Australia Highlights! This is a tiny town on the southern coast of Australia. We got super lucky and were able to rent one of the only two cars available in the town. The boys went off to hike with some of our new friends and we took the girls on a road trip down the Great Ocean Road. It was simply stunning! Farms, vineyards, groves, and some of the most gorgeous ocean views. It was over 2 hours to drive down to see the 12 Apostles but worth every second to visit this iconic shoreline. Along the way Savella shouted out “Koala!! Koala!!!” We thought it was a joke but no right up in the trees were tons of wild Koalas! Ahhhhh so cool! I tested out my driving skills on the wrong side of the road and while I didn’t crash - I did get pulled over by the local police just after I passed an erratic driver, that’s where the cop was so he obviously thought I was driving crazy fast. After a quick explanation he was super kind and let me go with some nice Christmas wishes. We got back to the rental car lot just in time to get a nice shower as we ran back to the ship. 😂

Brisbane Australia Highlights! With only one day we knew we had to head straight up to the Australia Zoo. It was about an hour drive north from the port in our rental car. We arrived and had about 3 hours to see it all. What a gorgeous zoo! You can go in and hang out with all the kangaroos and they love to be pet. So fluffy! Do you know how many kangaroos there are in Australia? 43 Million!!! The human population in Australia is only 26 million. I would have lost that trivia but now we understand why all the Aussies on board our ship thought it was so crazy that we wanted to go to the zoo to see kangaroos. Crikey!!

Vanuatu Highlights! A day and a half after our visit Vanuatu suffered a massive 7.3 Earthquake! Praying for all the people of this island. We had a great day on rope swings at the Blue Lagoon and jumping from waterfalls into magnificent rivers. What a fascinating place. Hoping for a speedy recovery for the island.

Fiji Highlights! We got pulled over Twice! Saw 3 car accidents but survived driving around this island. It was not what we expected and next time maybe we will stick to seeing Fiji via boat instead of car. We stopped at the Garden of the Sleeping Giant to see the orchids then headed to the south part of the island to hike at the National Sand Dunes Park which was fun. Google maps tired to take us in all sorts of crazy routes (like down train tracks) but we managed. The people of the island, in our experience, were much less friendly than we have grown accustomed to during our odyssey across the South Pacific. If someone gives you the option of French Polynesia and Fiji, for us it would be French Polynesia every time although we agreed at the end that we might need to give Fiji another shot sometime in the future. Bula!
